Case Study

Bethlehem Residential Project

Situation

The front steps of this home were sinking and had pulled more than two inches away from the front porch. The homeowner called Cantsink to restore the steps to alignment and close the widening gap between the steps and the rest of the home.

Scope of Work

The problem was caused by extremely soft soil conditions under the steps. Because of these conditions, installation of Cantsink's patented helical pier was particularly challenging. The crew also had to avoid disturbing surrounding landscape features. To protect the landscape, the Cansink crew used a small, walk-behind Bobcat. Once the installation was initiated, the machine gauge indicated extremely dense soil conditions, which made achieving the necessary bearing pressure to lift the stairs difficult. This required an additional consultation with the homeowner.

Anchor System

A single pier with a 14-inch helix was installed and an underpinning bracket was affixed to the top. The pier was inserted to a depth of 55 feet. All work was completed within a single day. Results
